To Still Love
I know it’s just silly to still love you
After all these years I still hold your memory dear
You were my go to crush whenever I was blue
And my favorite drummer boy my 6th year
All I wanted back then was to hold your hand and look into those eyes so near sunset
And run my hands through your auburn locks with hesitation gone
Sixteen of my years have passed and you’re now on your own while I lie in a prison of regret
You may not remember I exist from dusk ‘til waking dawn
But you always were the one
Now you’re back and moving on
Chapter One: Worth the Wait
Winds twirled and pirouetted circles about Kyuubi as he pushed against the downpour. She squirmed in his arms still shouting, insisting they turn back, that she wasn’t worth this kind of trouble. But he only clutched her tighter against him, and snapped “shut up”. He stared down at her, white flowered kimono rumpled and long peach pit hair plastered against her bare cheeks and chest. His chest tightened, as he forced his eyes forward. Distraction would have to wait until she was safe. Until…
“Kyuubi, behind you!” she said suddenly.
Needling pain seared every nerve as he deflected the kunai with his long tail, knocking it several paces away. He glared at the two males now standing firmly before him.
The first spoke, his voice a breadth above the downpour. “Release Meguru-sama,” he said, brandishing another kunai, “or your life ends here.”
With a click of his tongue, Kyuubi steadied his feet against the sodden ground and set her behind him.
“So be it!” the second bit. Hands cycled hastily through each symbol as he drew in the air around him, then breathed out “Katon! Goukakyuu no Justu!”
Kyuubi turned, bracing his arms around her as flames flooded the clearing. “Damn,” he swore quietly as the crackle of flames submitted to the rain. She was watching him, and from the look on her face she knew.
She slammed her small fist against his chest again and again, but he remained unmoving. “Bakayaro!” she whispered fiercely. “I told you I’m not worth this.”
Beneath the rain, he could smell her tears as she buried her face into his chest. He felt his countenance soften as he caught her fist in one hand, coaxing her to look at him. “You were always worth this Meg,” spoke Kyuubi softly. “At least to me.” With her accenting grunt, he turned his back to her.
“You’re a fool,” said the second. “Meguru belongs to me!”
“I refuse,” he heard before a sharp cry filled his ears.
Every bit of time seemed to stop for Kyuubi. “Meg?” he called again, but she refused to answer. All of his pain was forgotten, all his humanity damned of her words as the kunai pressed against her throat.
“Meg,” Kyuubi reached for her. “Don’t do this!”
“I refuse,” her voice trembled, taking a step back. “I refuse!”
In the next instant, crimson was all he could see before darkness clouded his vision.
